Fjallabyggð er samfélag með fjölbreyttan hóp íbúa, þar sem um 11% eiga rætur víða um heim.
Íbúar af erlendu bergi brotnir hafa lagt mikið af mörkum til atvinnu- og menningarlífs í sveitarfélaginu en eru þó oft ósýnilegir í daglegu félagslífi.
Markmið með verkefninu „Fjölmenning í Fjallabyggð“ er að auka sýnileika þessa hóps, gefa honum rödd og skapa vettvang fyrir samfélagslega þátttöku.
Á sama tíma kynnast innfæddir íbúar þeim sem hafa flutt til þeirra og því sem þeir hafa fram að færa. Í gegnum ljósmyndasýningu, sögusafn, rafbók og fjölmenningarhátíð í Brimsölum og Tjarnarborg, haustið 2026 fá íbúar af erlendu bergi brotnir rödd og tækifæri til að deila sinni sögu, menningu og reynslu.
Verkefnið byggir á samveru, listum og frásögnum sem tengja saman ólíka menningarheima, skapa jákvæða sýn á fjölbreytileika og styrkja samfélagið í heild.
Ida Semey er verkefnastjóri verkefnisins en með henni í verkefninu eru Lára Stefánsdóttir og Björn Valdimarsson. Verkefnahópurinn hefur hist nokkrum sinnum og lagt drög að verkefninu, meðal annars með því að velta fyrir sér hvernig best sé að nálgast myndatöku og sögusöfnun.
Í Fjallabyggð búa íbúar af mörgum þjóðernum og verður spennandi að sýna þann fjölbreytileika sem samfélagið byggir á. Nú þegar síðasta úthlutun styrkja hefur farið fram er verkefnið formlega hafið.
Verkefnið hlaut styrk frá SSNE, KEA, Norðurorku og Fjallabyggð. Ida er afar þakklát fyrir þann stuðning sem gerir kleift að ráðast í verkefnið.
Fréttir af verkefninu, kynningar og viðburðir á borð við fjölmenningarlegt vöfflukaffi, tónlistarviðburði og annað tengt verkefninu verða kynntar á netmiðlum og reynt verður að ná sem víðast út á vinnustaði í Fjallabyggð.
Verkefnateymið vonast til að sem flestir taki þátt í þessu skemmtilega og samfélagslega mikilvæga verkefni.
Fjallabyggð is a community with a diverse population, with around 11% of residents having roots in different parts of the world. Residents of foreign origin have made significant contributions to the municipality’s working life and cultural scene, yet they are often less visible in everyday social life. The aim of the project “Multicultural Fjallabyggð” is to increase the visibility of this group, give them a voice, and create a platform for social participation. At the same time, local residents are given the opportunity to get to know those who have moved to the community and what they have to offer.
Through a photography exhibition, story archive, digital book, and a multicultural festival at Brimsalir and Tjarnarborg in the autumn of 2026, residents of foreign origin will be given a voice and the opportunity to share their stories, cultures, and experiences. The project is built on togetherness, the arts, and storytelling that connect different cultural worlds, promote a positive view of diversity, and strengthen the community as a whole.
Ida Semey is the project manager, working alongside Lára Stefánsdóttir and Björn Valdimarsson. The project team has met several times and outlined the project, including reflecting on how best to approach photography and story collection. Fjallabyggð is home to people of many nationalities, and it will be exciting to highlight the diversity on which the community is built.
Now that the final round of funding has been completed, the project has officially begun. The project has received funding from SSNE, KEA, Norðurorka, and the Municipality of Fjallabyggð. Ida is deeply grateful for the support, which makes it possible to move forward with the project.
News about the project, promotional activities, and events such as multicultural waffle gatherings, music events, and other related activities will be shared through online media, with efforts made to reach workplaces throughout Fjallabyggð.
